AGENCY DESCRIPTION

 

A local Lutheran Church organized the Inn in 1969, to assist boys, 12 to 16 years of age, in a home-like setting.  Services and skill training are also provided to youth 16 to 18 years of age through The Inn’s Homeless Youth Program and Independent Living Program.  The Inn is a non-profit agency operating with a community volunteer Board of Directors, who determine policy, and a trained staff that implements the program.  The Inn's mission is to expand opportunities for youth and their families.  This is accomplished through teaching skills that will help them make good decisions and assist them to gain mastery in their lives.

Program Description

 

Home Safe Teen Parent Program takes in females ages 16 to 19.  The program provides referral and advocacy services for pregnant and parenting teens, who are homeless or living in temporary shelter care.  The program serves a minimum of 25 young women, annually, who demonstrate willingness to take positive steps to stabilize their lives through the strengthening of independent living skills and socialization through either work or school programs.

INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM

Program Description

 

Independent Living Program supports and teaches skills to older adolescents who are currently in foster care.  Through individual and group work, case managers show youth how to accomplish a variety of activities that will assist them in their future endeavors.  The youth in this program participate in a variety of activities, including finishing high school or its equivalent, working, applying for college, developing social skills, playing sports, participating in the Youth Advisory Board, learning how to interview for employment, or raising a child.  The staff recognizes major life passages through special celebrations.  For example, every year youth who complete their educational program have a graduation ceremony with their families, speakers, and a formal dinner.  Programs in Multnomah and Douglas Counties.  The Inn and Parrott Creek jointly operate the Clackamas Independent Living Program.

 POWERHOUSE MENTORING PROGRAM

Program Description

 

The goal of the Powerhouse Mentoring Program is to provide resiliency in foster youth through supportive one-on-one relationships with caring mentors to enable youth to complete high school and move successfully into independent living after leaving foster care.  volunteer mentors spend ten hours a month for at least one year with their youth.  You and mentors meet face-to-face twice a month for shared activities based on the interests of both the youth and mentor.  Mentors receive approximately six hours of initial training and orientation and then meet quarterly for additional training.  The professional staff of Powerhouse have strong backgrounds in counseling and human development and provide on-going support for the mentors as they meet with their youth.

Program Description

 

Residential Treatment Program takes in boys, ages 12 to 16, from the Portland metro area, but will consider boys from other parts of the state as well.  Youth entering the program generally have extreme difficulty in school and are having problems at home and in the community.  Success is determined as: 1) improved individual school performance, 2) ability to live with their family or foster family, and 3) increased sense of personal responsibility.  The average length of stay in this program is nine months to a year.  The boys attend local public or alternative schools.  Staff plans a variety of activities and interventions designed to foster growth in the boys, allowing them to see or experience new ways of living, while gaining the skills necessary to become positive, functioning members of their community.

Program Description

 

Springwater Transitional Living Program takes in males and females ages 16 to 20.  The program provides life skills trainers to teach necessary skills, in order for youth to transition back to the community successfully.  The Springwater Program utilizes a group home and scattered site community apartments to provide independent living opportunities.  Residents focus on completing their secondary education, employment, saving money, and moving into stable housing.
